Lex Police Investigate Possible Hate Crime

(LFUCG)–The Lexington Police Department is investigating a possible hate crime in which a white man grabbed an African American woman who was working at a local store.

The incident happened Wednesday, January 29, at the Walmart on New Circle Road. A third-party vendor working inside the store told police that a male customer approached her table after she asked him a question. According to the victim, the man made motions with his hands, which he said was for making a noose. The man then lunged forward and briefly put both his hands around the victim’s neck.

Surveillance cameras captured the incident, and police today released the video in an effort to identify the suspect. The video and a still image of the suspect have been posted to the Lexington Police Department’s social media accounts and to LexIDme.com.
