Legends Lose to Columbia

The Lexington Legends dropped the second game of the series to the Columbia Fireflies, 6-3 on Monday, June 24. The Fireflies now improve their record to 37-35 while the Legends drop to 37-36.

Columbia plated their first run in the top of the first inning. Edgardo Fermin lined a leadoff double down the left field line then Ali Sanchez brought him home with an RBI single up the middle to put the Fireflies ahead 1-0.

In the top of the third, Blake Tiberi blasted a homer to left field, extending Columbia’s lead 2-0.

The Legends first scored in the bottom of the fourth inning. Ricky Aracena lined a double off the right field wall then advanced to third on a groundout by Cal Jones. Brewer Hicklen popped up a sacrifice fly to right field, allowing Aracena to score and Lexington was on the board, 2-1.

The Fireflies continued scoring in the top of the fifth inning. Edgardo Fermin sent a double to left centerfield then was doubled home by Ali Sanchez. With Sanchez at second, Scott Manea hit a two-run bomb to left field and Columbia led 5-1.

Columbia scored their final run in the top of the sixth inning. Quinn Brodey crushed a solo homer to right field, putting the Fireflies up 6-1.

In the bottom of the seventh, Nick Pratto reached on a single to right field, his third hit of the night, then went to second on a wild pitch. Seuly Matias and Manny Olloque drew back-to-back walks to load the bases. Cristian Perez then lined a two-run single to deep left centerfield, to pull the Legends within three runs.

Darwin Ramos was awarded the win for the Fireflies, tossing 3.0 innings allowing two runs on two hits while walking two and striking out four. Holden Capps was given the loss pitching 4.0 innings allowing two runs on five hits while walking two and striking out one.

The Legends and Fireflies meet for the series finale tonight, June 26 at 7:05 p.m. Lexington will send RHP Andres Sotillet (5-4, 3.80 ERA) to face RHP Chris Viall (2-4, 5.40 ERA) for Columbia.
