Mayor Jim Gray Friday named Joseph M. Smith the new Councilmember for the 2th District. Smith has worked as a Realtor for 30 years in Lexington, and also spent 10 years in banking. He is past president of the Townley Park Homeowners Association; a former member of the Board of Trustees of Lexington Catholic High School, his alma mater; and a member of the Lexington Jaycees and Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Bluegrass. He has served as a member of the City’s Planning Commission and on the Lyric Task Force Committee. Smith replaces Sasha Love Higgins, who resigned April 27. The Urban County Council now has a 15-day window should it decide to overturn the appointment.
