Plane Down Near Airport; Only Minor Injuries

(LEX 18) – Lexington Fire officials say a plane was forced to make an emergency landing in a field near Blue Grass Airport after a reported engine failure.

It happened at about 3:50p.m. according to the fire department.

Reportedly a Beechcraft Bonanza plane was approaching Blue Grass Airport for landing when the engine failed.

The plane was able to land in a field on the property of Calumet Farm on Versailles Road.

Fire officials say there were two people on the plane and they did appear to be hurt. They were taken to the hospital to be examined though out of an abundance of caution. A source tells LEX 18 they were coming into Lexington for the UK basketball game against Kansas.

The Federal Aviation Administration has been notified and they are expected to come to Lexington on Monday or Tuesday to investigate. The plane will not be moved until then.
