Rowan Co. Clerk Davis Defeated

(LEX 18) — Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis has lost her bid for a second term as Rowan County clerk, falling to Democratic challenger Elwood Caudill Jr.

Lawsuits were filed against Davis during that time and she was jailed for being found in contempt of court. In 2015, Davis made international headlines after she defied a U.S Federal Court order to issue marriage licenses after same-sex marriage was effectively legalized nationwide.

Caudill Jr. said he hoped to move past the problems he believes Davis created.

I want Rowan County and Morehead to get back to where it was and treat everyone equally and treat everyone with respect,” Caudill Jr. told LEX 18.

Back in 2014, Caudill Jr. and Davis ran against each other in the Democratic primary. He lost by 23 votes.

I’m right there so I did not want to give up. They say run once, run twice, and then you’re out,” said Caudill Jr.

Since that race, Davis switched political parties.
